Sky Mountain Charter School is a California public charter school. SMCS is WASC accredited and the SMCS charter has been approved by the Lucerne Valley Unified School District in Lucerne Valley, California. SMCS is an independent study charter school that is managed by Innovative Education Management (IEM), a nonprofit public benefit education corporation who has managed a number of public charter schools in California since 1993. SMCS serves California students in grades K-12 who reside in a six-county area including San Bernardino, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties.
Sky Mountain Charter School is based on a parent choice philosophy. Parents are able to work with an education specialist to develop individualized learning opportunities by choosing home-based or community based instruction and selecting individualized curriculum based on:
- Parent teaching philosophy
- Student learning style
- Student functioning grade level
- Use of varied materials
- Use of school resources and supportive instruction
- Real life, context based learning
Our Educational Specialist are highly trained, No Child Left Behind certified credentialed professionals who work closely with parents and students in home based and independent study learning environments.
