TLC is a California charter school sponsored by the
San Diego Unified School District .
TLC serves K-12 students who reside in San Diego ,
Riverside , Orange and Imperial Counties.
The Learning Choice Academy offers academic assistance
to families who want to learn at home together, yet
take advantage of the resources possible through public
education. TLC Academy is a Personalized Learning
school, focused on the unique needs of the whole student,
both academic and social.
The Learning Choice Academy offers a selected Core
Curriculum from which families may choose what is best
for each child. Students may select from a wide variety
of materials, including state-adopted textbooks, thematic
units, hands-on learning kits, and materials developed
especially for Homeschool or individualized instruction.
(Parents may also request special materials specific
to their student's needs.)
The Learning Choice Academy offers Enrichment Classes
to further enhance the student's education. Classes
include Science Labs, Computer Labs, Math Labs, Writing
Workshops, and various classes in Visual and Performing
Arts. These classes may be held on site or at local
community centers. They are taught by fully credentialed
teachers, professionals and/or parents.
The Learning Choice Academy 's Events Coordinator helps
plan great events all year long. Welcome to School
Picnics, History Day and Spring Fling are this year's
planned events! We also have smaller, site-specific
gatherings such as monthly Show and Tell, Picnics in
the Park, and Readers Theatre. We also plan to hold
school assemblies. Of course, TLC Academy parents and
students will come up with new events all year long!
The Learning Choice Academy 's Events Coordinator and
parents are going to be kept busy as they schedule
various field trips throughout the year. There are
always new opportunities being presented and we plan
to take advantage of them! San Diego is a wealth of
learning opportunities, from museums to whale-watching,
from the Opera to the Blues, from the beach to the
mountains. But we are not limited by city boundaries
- trips to Washington D. C, Sacramento and other educational
sites are all possible!
The Learning Choice Academy
offers each family a “partner” in education. A California
credentialed teacher will work with each family on
an individualized basis focusing upon the student's
learning style, and the parent's teaching style. The
teacher-parent and education-partner together create
lesson plans, identify creative resources and validate
student learning. The TLC Partner will serve as the
family's personal liaison and assist in all facets
of school services.
TLC makes every attempt to match your family with an
Educational Partner (EP) that will best meet you and
your student's unique needs. If your family's learning
style doesn't mesh well with your assigned EP, we take
the necessary steps in matching your request for another.
