The mission of Carter G. Woodson Public Charter
School is to provide an education to students who are
most in need and otherwise have been unsuccessful in
school by establishing adequate resources both during
school and in the after school program for children
to succeed. Our focus on core academics, vocational
training, technology, leadership, and parenting skills
ensures the success of young families in becoming educated,
self-sufficient, and economically independent.
Accepting students from grades 7th - 12th, Carter
G. Woodson's dedication to helping students succeed
is accomplished by providing the following: High Educational
Standards aligned with state and the No Child Left
Behind Framework. All Classes are taught by highly
qualified certificated teaching staff. Small Class
Sizes along with specialized cooperative learning and
one-on-one tutoring. Individualized Learning Plans
tailored to each student's needs. Career and College
preparation. Supportive resources for the entire family.
Vocational Training programs with an emphasis on Technology,
business and School-to-Career learning for students
13 - 18 years of age.
The Carter G. Woodson Charter School is designed to
target young parenting individuals who have dropped
out of school and will benefit from an interactive,
family-like learning atmosphere to reclaim their education
toward a high school diploma. Daycare and early start
education will be provided for children of students
in an effort to educate the entire family. As a collaborative
effort, the school will provide onsite health care
services, mental health and prenatal counseling. Our
school will provide parenting education, vocational
training, and the development of a higher education
plan to enhance each youth's stability and help them
become assets in their communities.
Agape, Incorporated, a non-profit, public benefit
corporation, is responsible for the complete operation
and liability of the Carter G. Woodson Charter School.
The organization's mission is to provide adequate resources
within the community for youth and families to succeed
by developing, expanding, and reaching out to those
most in need. Agape's founders intend to fulfill that
commitment by designing and implementing needed resources
and services that reduce and/or eliminate obstacles
preventing progress.
Agape' serves as an innovator for providing services
to youth and families, which increase their likelihood
of becoming resilient, productive, prosperous, self-reliant
and successful members of their community. Success
will be reached through the following organizational
principles:
A. Fiscally Sound - Each school and program must produce
adequeate funds for growth and expansion, and at all
times be fiscally solvent.
B. Accountability - Performance driven and measurable
outcomes to provide high quality programs will be our
continued focus.
C. Community Outreach - Keeping parents and community
members informed and involved through various announcements
and trainings.
In addition, Agape' is determined to offer services
that will break the cycle of poverty, dependence and
pessimism toward the future. We strive to achieve this
by providing youth and families with proactive opportunities
to overcome two of the most significant impediments
to success:
1. Leaving school without completing a High School
Diploma.
2. Prematurely becoming a parent without adequate
services or an education.
