Nevada City, CA. Two prominent California charter school directors have
received prestigious invitations to attend this year’s annual Oxford
Round Table education forum event in Oxford, England scheduled for this
March 16th thru 21st. Lynn Peebles, Director of Shasta Home School of
Redding, and Jan Jablecki, Director of Camptonville Academy of Grass
Valley, have been invited to share their innovative learning programs
with other leading education representatives from all over the world.
Mr. Peebles and Ms. Jablecki are two of only 35 key education representatives
to attend this year’s renowned Oxford event, and are among only
a handful of presenters.
Both Shasta Home School and Camptonville Academy charter schools provide
their students with a leading-edge approach to education in California
called Personalized Learning. The Personalized Learning model is founded
upon tailoring learning according to the individual needs of each student.
Charter schools who follow a Personalized Learning approach offer a variety
of choices in curriculum; a combination of teaching in the classroom,
the greater community, and at home; technology access, reduced class
sizes and much more so that each student’s learning may be specifically
designed according to how each student best learns. Each student’s
learning program is designed through a collaborative partnership involving
the student, parent, teacher, and school. Personalized Learning programs
emphasize many of the latest, tried and true education research findings
as to how students learn most successfully, including emphasis on parent
involvement, small class sizes, learning style assessment, ongoing teacher
development programs, tutoring, technology access, and multiple learning
environments. Both Shasta Home School and Camptonville Academy are members
of a growing network of Personalized Learning programs in California
called APLUS+ (www.theaplus.org).
According to the Oxford Round Table website, the purpose of the Oxford
Round Table is to promote human advancement and understanding through
the improvement of education. To this end, the Oxford Round Table provides
a forum for the study and consideration of current issues facing state
and national systems of education. The Oxford Round Table is a unique
forum, not a conference in the conventional sense, but rather an opportunity
for select, diverse leaders in education to discuss educational policy
over a five-day period in a collegial, "think-tank" atmosphere
in the ancient City of Oxford.
The Round Table meets periodically in the City of Oxford and at each
session is comprised of a small select group of leaders from both the
public and private sectors of several countries.
The Round Table does not set a specific agenda, but rather allows the
discussions of participants to develop and flow in response to issues
and concerns presented at each meeting. Invitations are sent to selected
persons throughout the international community. These individuals are
identified through several screening processes: by nomination of previous
participants in the Round Table; from recommendations to the Round Table
directors who, also, are actively involved in higher education and public
school leadership; from recognized presentations and awards of state
and national organizations; and by invitations to an individual in a
successful university or school district. The foundation of the success
of the Round Table is the assurance that this learning community will
be composed of outstanding educational leaders.
Past membership has included Ministers of Education, State Governors
from the United States, Members of Parliament, Executive Officers of
international corporations, educational administrators, and academicians
from major universities. The results of the deliberations are published
and distributed to policymakers and academic libraries around the world.
Previous Oxford Round Tables have produced several books. Round Table
publications traditionally convey varied approaches for improving educational
policy at institutional and governmental levels throughout the world.
