Performance Series™ Assessment Program Overview

A Standards-based Adaptive Measurement Designed to Assess and Track the Academic Growth of Each Student, Class, and School.

The PERFORMANCE Series Internet delivered assessment is a Standards-based Adaptive Measurement–a computer adaptive assessment modified to measure the different academic strands of individual state standards. Its goal is to give immediate diagnostic information to each teacher, including learning objectives a student has not completed, groupings of students by ability, and the academic gains made by individual and groups of students. Additionally, the administration can access the scores for the entire district as well as each school, with full desegregation abilities. Internet based and economically priced, this assessment system will change the way you and your students think of testing.

Internet Based:

  • Since Performance Series assessments are entirely web-based, they do not require extra hardware or software.
  • The only thing you need in order to test students is a computer with Internet access.

Easily Accessible:

  • Traditional tests can take weeks or months to return results for use in the classroom.
  • Performance Series assessments are on the web, so educators can view the results immediately. This allows a student to be placed accurately right away.

Economically Priced:

  • Because it is Internet-based, we are able to offer this assessment at a fraction of the cost of traditional placement tests.
  • Find out how it works and what the Internet requirements are.

How It Works:
The Performance Series is a Standards-based Adaptive Measurement (SAM) that utilizes an innovative computer-adaptive, Internet based model to target the instructional level of each student by altering question difficulty based on previous answers. Once the test has been completed, the results are immediately available, providing an accurate evaluation of the student's abilities.

Key Benefits:

  • SAM adapts to the student's instructional level, alleviating continued rounds of questions that are too easy or too difficult. SAM accurately places each student at his/her appropriate instructional level (grades 2-12).
  • SAM is research-based, ensuring the reliability and validity of the test to accurately place each student.
  • SAM reports are immediately available online after a student takes the test, since the test is Internet based. Levels of reports range from individual student's performance through district-wide results, with demographic and group filtering.
  • SAM tracks students using a consistent scale as they move from one school to the next, and measures academic gains over one year or across multiple years. In addition, groups can be established (i.e. Title I, Free & Reduced Lunch, After School, Open Court, etc.) to place students and track academic gains over time.

Performance Series™ Requirements

Internet Connection Requirements:
Since Performance Assessment Series is an Internet-based application, the system requires schools to have solid Internet connection. Typically, this means a T1, DSL line or something equivalent. The stronger the connection to the Internet the schools have, the more students can use the system at the same time.

Each student requires about 1KB/Sec (10Kb/Sec) of bandwidth to test. So a full T1 line can support about 150 students testing simultaneously. Fractional T1 lines can range from 7 simultaneous students to 120 depending on the speed. Schools that share a single phone modem for all Internet activity are not suitable for more than a few students at a time.

Internet Browser Requirements:
Every Macintosh or Windows computer to be used for testing must be connected to the Internet and must have one of the Internet browsers listed below. Here are the guidelines:

  • A solid Internet connection, such as a T1 line, DSL, etc.
Internet Explorer(version 4.01 or newer) or
Netscape Navigator (version 4.x, but currently not 6.x or 7.x)*
  • A Windows PC (Pentium 16MB RAM) or a Power Macintosh (24MB RAM)

We reserve the right to increase the computer requirements for all new revisions.

* Other technical requirements: JavaScript and cookies must be enabled (default browser option). Computer must display at least 256 colors and have a minimum 640 by 480 resolution screen. Some administration features require a more recent browser.
