Oceanside Unified School District
Pacific View Charter School seeks to provide an educational
opportunity for all students in grades K-12 to work
independently or in group settings, to pursue individualized
educational plans created by parents, students, and
teachers. This plan will provide for continued academic
progress and will reflect the student’s goals
and objectives. Parents are an integral part of their
child’s educational success, and have an active
voice in the governance of Pacific View Charter School.
Parent involvement is the foundation upon which the
school is based. All students are provided access to
a computer lab equipped with current software and internet
access. Students are able to access the computer lab
to receive instruction in Excel, Power Point, Microsoft
Word and Outlook. Students at the 9-12 level meet with
their teacher one time per week for one hour. Their
educational support person must attend that meeting.
During this meeting the teacher discusses and critiques
completed assignments, and assigns new course work.
The K-8 students meet with their teacher one – three times per month depending on the level of support
needed. Pacific View Charter School promotes individuality
in learning and strives to develop responsible, creative
students who possess the initiative necessary to meet
their educational and life goals.
In June 1999, Pacific View Charter School became California
Charter School #247 when the California State Board
of Education approved the proposal. The school began
operating in September of 1999, opening with 125 students
enrolled in grades K-12. We currently have 327 students.
Pacific View Charter School
is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation
governed by a board of directors comprised of school administration and community members. Parents choose the personalized
learning model offered by Pacific View Charter School
for a variety of reasons such as: the student would
benefit from working at either a faster or slower pace,
the parent wants to be more involved with the student
and in planning the lessons, or there are too many distractions
in the classroom.
Our vision is to educate students within the community
whose families have a strong desire to achieve optimum
academic results and produce self-reliant, capable students.
Through shared-governance, the parents and staff will
be accountable for meeting the academic needs of all
students attending Pacific View Charter School. We will
promote individuality and strive to develop responsible,
creative students who possess the initiative necessary
to meet educational and life goals.
