About Our Program
Delta Charter High School (DCHS) is a charter high school located adjacent to the very successful New Jerusalem (elementary) Charter School in southern San Joaquin County .  DCHS opened its doors to eighteen 9th-12th grade students on August 27, 2001 .  Since then, enrollment has increased three fold and continues to grow.  While technically dubbed by the State Board of Education as an " independent study " charter school, in actuality, DCHS is a break-the-mold hybrid Personalized Learning blend between independent study , "not so traditional" site-based instruction, and community-and career-based learning. We at Delta Charter High School are committed to a partnership for all learners.

School Mission
To create and deliver an innovative, high quality California State Standards focused, Internet-based, comprehensive high school education program, augmented by hands-on classroom science and technology instruction, that elicits young people's innate love of learning, builds self-confidence, and prepares students for future educational paths and career pursuits.

Vision Statement
It is the ultimate goal of DCHS to be a cutting-edge, energizing, creative and technologically-advanced school system of the highest caliber. This goal will be realized when students, under the direction of their home educator, supported by our educational coordinators, and using the latest learning technologies available, see learning as a seamless array of highly varied and superbly orchestrated learning choices; gain necessary basic skills and knowledge as well as rich subject matter understanding; experience and consider learning a natural, never-ending aspect of life; and are prepared for success and excellence in a 2 to 4 year college or technical school, or the job world itself as determined by the student and his/her parents.

Benefits of Enrolling in Delta Charter High School

One-on-one Learning Environment
Studies show that optimal learning takes place in a one-on-one learning environment.  Students are able to quickly move ahead if they are doing well, or they are able to concentrate longer on challenging areas in order to master concepts.

Broad Range of Course Work
Reading and writing, science, mathematics, social studies, foreign languages, visual and performing arts, and physical education are all courses planned and monitored by teachers in conjunction with the parent or legal guardian and student.

Parent Choice
The parent or legal guardian assists the teacher in establishing a personalized study plan unique to each student's learning style, needs, and preferences.  This allows flexibility in pace, assignments and evaluation methods and instructional materials.

Credentialed Teachers
Delta Charter High School hires local directors and teachers to provide the support and instruction students need.  These teachers work with the parent or legal guardian and the student in a variety of settings to insure that the individual student needs are met.  Teachers are required to have a valid California State teaching credential.

Accountability
At our charter school, students meet regularly with credentialed teachers to maintain the same standards, ethics, and quality control as other schools in the traditional setting.  Teachers, parents, and students meet every four weeks or less, as agreed upon at enrollment, to review and evaluate student work and to assign student work for the next assignment period.  Our charter school meets District and state standards for the operation of an independent study school model.

How Students, Parents, and Teachers Team For Student Success
At the time of enrollment, a credentialed teacher works with the family to define Personalized Study requirements and the student's educational goals.  Curriculum options are discussed, including computer-based or more traditional methods.  Graduation requirements are reviewed.  A plan is then established that integrates California State Content Standards with the desired methods and approaches to learning.

Following enrollment, the teacher will meet regularly to assign and evaluate student work, monitor attendance, and document student progress toward course completion.  Samples of student work are submitted to the charter school each assignment period.

Student work samples might include written, video tapes performances, or photo journals.  Outcomes are also measured by the administration of state assessment tests, currently the CAT-6 test.  This test is administered in the spring at the school site
.
